Introduction Introduction The objective of this course is to take the mystery out of corporate finance and empower non-financial managers. As such, it simplifies the language of accounting and finance and links financial management concepts to the real drivers of business growth and value. The course is based on the concepts and principles contained in the ValueDriver™ corporate financial analysis and forecasting program.
The Basics The Basics Financial statements are often difficult to interpret and do not explain how the various components integrate or interact. Invariably they do not facilitate performance management and operational decision-making. Nevertheless, they are accepted convention and require understanding.
The Operating Growth And Value Drivers The Operating Growth And Value Drivers Maximising shareholder value is the key objective of all executives, and the ultimate test of performance management. This entails maximising both profits and returns, and requires a clear understanding of the two critical operational factors controlling business performance.
The Strategic Growth And Value Drivers The Strategic Growth And Value Drivers Is debt good or bad? Up to a point it can be very good. The manner in which a business is financed, and the strategic use of debt, can significantly enhance shareholder returns. Growth also conventionally improves shareholder value, but it is critical to identify the rate of growth a business can sustain.
Market Valuation Market Valuation Market valuations of a business can differ from the intrinsic value (based on accounting conventions) and are based on market related measures. The difference between market and intrinsic valuations determines the degree of investment opportunity. Economic performance is a key element in determining market value.
